Inv. # A3772

Due the wide migration of tribes in the Ubangi region, there was a diffusion of art styles and artworks that were intermixed across cultural boundaries.   This Banda figure was a protective spirit used for social control, successful hunting and to ward off illness.  The figure has a cylindrical torso with bent arms forming a lozenge and short bent legs.  The head is ovoid shaped with shell eyes, scarification from the forehead to nose, metal rings in the ears and wears a glass beaded necklace.
