The Ibo produced a variety of masking styles with thousands of forms and functions.  Naturalistic white faced masks represented maiden spirits, the ideal of feminine beauty and grace.  These mask were used during initiations, funerals and important agricultural festivals.  This example has slit eyes, angular nose, open mouth and an elaborate coiffure with braided plaits and four cylindrical shafts.
