The Yaka used small charms known as “biteki,” a part of the Mbwoolo ritual institution.  They were owned by specific lineage's rather than individuals and were kept in small huts in groups.  These fetish figures functioned to protect property, in the treatment of minor illness and in the protection of lineage members.
