Luba half fetish figures were used by ritual specialist for protection, healing and witchcraft.  The figure’s face has bulging eyes, flat nose, open mouth and hands resting on the abdomen. Magical materials were embedded into the cavity on top of the head.  By enhancing the object in this way, the ritual specialist would invite the spirit to inhabit the figure as a receptacle.
