The Yombe maternity figure called Phemba, represents the mythical mother and child honoring the maternal spirit used in fertility and funerary cults. The mother is seated cross legged wearing a mitre-shaped crown. The nursing child is held by the mother’s clasping hands, the infant’s body conforms to the arc of the mother’s lap.
