This Songye fetish figure was used for healing, fertility and protection from evil spirits, sorcerers and hostile powers. The sensitive, small figure is sculpted in a frontal pose rising from a circular base, which supports a short trunk with finely carved hands resting on the abdomen. The face is stylized and there is a cavity on top of the head which once contained magical material. There are also holes in the abdomen, ears and arms from use.
