The expressive polychrome face of this mask has slit eyes, angular nose, open aggressive mouth baring teeth and a panel shaped handle. The headdress is woven fiber with five raised cone forms. Attached to the mask’s rim is a collar of raffia. This Yaka mask was used during initiation ceremonies and represented male cult heroes associated with beauty and the life force of earth.
