This rare Ibibio Mfon ekpo mask represents an idealized woman carved in relief against a round background. Light colored Mfon ekpo masks are considered benevolent, serene and revered. These masks were danced during daytime funeral ceremonies and annual agricultural festivals. The oval flange is pierced around the rim, the protruding face has slit through almond eyes with a white and black patina.
