The Chokwe carved small wooden figures which belonged to individuals who used them to honor personal or family spirits. Chokwe ancestor figures were kept in a shrine to secure spiritual support in sustaining personal wealth and social status.  This figure has a heart shaped face, coffee-bean eyes, naturalistic nose and simple mouth. The legs slightly bent, arms close to the body with hands resting on the chest.
