This early Yoruba Eshu figure is known as the trickster, the protector of travelers and mediator between the spiritual and mortal worlds. The body of this mysterious figure is a container for magical materials used by a ritual specialist. The head is a stopper with elongated back swept hair, the facial features are worn away with age.
