Our Teke figure was used by a ritual specialist for protection against witchcraft, disease, magic, to acquire power, riches and successful hunting. The figure represents an ancestor or chief indicated by facial striations, a trapezoid beard and round cap. His body is encased in leather around a mass of compact magical ingredients covering the abdominal cavity and trunk.
