The Nsapo axe is a classic form with a finely hammered, openwork blade and haft wrapped in reptile skin. There are three twisted ribs rising from the handle bearing two miniature heads on each side. Ceremonial axes were used as prestige items and symbols of authority for kings, chiefs and certain court officials.
