This Kongo gunpowder container has a double gourd shape with a fine patina, decorated with incised vertical designs. Guns and gunpowder were an important European trade good introduced in the 15th century. Powder containers were highly valued and essential in the use of muzzle loaded rifles by hunters and warriors.
