The Kongo figure was used by a ritual specialist to contact hidden forces of the spirit world. Kongo and Vili power figures were used for healing, hunting, judicial disputes, to combat witchcraft and for protection against misfortune. The figure’s face is refined with glass eyes, open mouth and a cap-like coiffure. His abdomen has a mirrored cavity containing secret medicines, while right arm is raised in an aggressive manner. He wears a snakeskin collar and there is a bundle of animal horns attached to his back.
