The Hemba Soko Mutu mask represents part chimpanzee and part human characteristics. Small Hemba masks were worn on the dancer’s belt as a hip mask during funerals. The mask has abstract features including a broad, domed forehead, elongated eyelids, a projecting V-shaped nose, arched brows and grimacing shaped mouth.
