The Dogon Walu mask performed with other animal masks worn at a collective funerary rite called Dama. The ritual was to ensure the safe passage of spirits of the deceased into the world of ancestors. The Walu or antelope mask are among the most popular Dogon masks, admired for their beauty and the strength of their performance.
