Dan masks are believed to be manifestations of wild forest spirits ranging in design from naturalistic to highly stylized. This Dan mask known as Gunyede was used in racing competitions with the fastest runners of the village. The mask takes an oval form with circular eyes, arched brows, naturalistic nose and protruding lips.
