Presented is a sensitively carved Chokwe mask that was thought to represent a young woman or ideal mother. Our Chokwe mask was linked to the boy’s initiation school and are danced at the completion of the ceremonies. The dancer acts out a pantomime with slight pelvis rotations characteristic of women.
