This exceptional Arussi shield of central Ethiopia takes a circular shape, made of wood and hippopotamus hide. These sturdy, thick walled shields were used by warriors for defensive purposes. The shield is finely tooled with a thick embossed midrib, decorative knobs in relief and a curved handle on the back.
